Wind strength and kite sizes

The size of the kite generally depends upon the wind strength and is being changed accordingly. Mostly kite surfers like to use small sized kites in strong winds just to avoid accidental situations. It is advised to the new kite surfers that they should not use big sized kites in the beginning because it is difficult to control large kites as compared to the small ones. And especially for the person who is just the beginner in this sport and does not have a good grip in it. And when someone becomes experienced and he has faith and courage in himself then he can use large kites but still he should not use such kites in stormy situations.

Kites vary in aspect ratios (A.R.). It means that what position of the kite is towards the wind and when the wind passes through it then what angle it creates. Advanced kites also give an adding option which is called "depower". This option is provided to control the power in the kite. This option is used to reduce the kite's angle towards the wind. So kite picks less wind. And then power is reduced.

One must remember one thing that a kite surfer may be able to give his better performances when the speed of the wind is low. As the speed becomes high he may suffer in this case and it will surely affect the performance of the rider. And it is being noticed that mostly the clever kite boarders prefers to ride in low wind speeds and avoid using high speeds. A 175 lb. rider will require about 8-10 knots sustained wind and a bigger kite (16 meter square). One can enjoy so much by using 12-15 knots. Because one can make low jumps in such sized kites. And if you are using 16-20 knots with a 16 sq.meter kite then you can have high jumps. There are some people who mostly dream to fly high enough that as the birds do. And their dream can become true by using 20-24 knots with 12 square meter kite. If you observe an expert rider who is having an enormous experience of kitesurfing, you will notice on important thing that he will never use one sized kites. He always has a variety of different sized kites that will let him to compete in all the speed ranges of the wind. And he will have a 'quiver' of kites having sizes 9 sq.meter, 13 sq.meter and 18 sq.meter traditional "C-kites".

If you want to use kites in wider wind ranges, then you should use Bow kites.Using C-kites in wider wind ranges is not encouraged because they do not have such a range. If kite surfer weighs 75 kg, then 7sq.meter and 12 square meter kites will make a useful quiver for him with winds ranging from 10-30+.

Wind direction
One of the most important thing that each kite boarder (especially the new riders) should remember before kitesurfing is that they should avoid to go directly onto the water in direct offshore winds. This can be very dangerous and it can flow you out to see. And it is also advised to avoid onshore winds because in such conditions one can be thrown against the trees and rocks that are present at the beach. In offshore winds the kite rider can ride only in two cases. First of all he should have a partner or another watercraft that may guide him back to shore. Secondly if he is performing on inland lakes, cross shore winds are the best for kitesurfing.
