Thailand in general FAQ'sIs Thailand a safe country to be in? Absolutely Yes. Thailand is a very safe country to be in. There is very little crime and the people of Thailand are always nice and service oriented. How is the food in Thailand, and what should I not eat? The food in Thailand is very exotic and good with a wide selection of spice mixes. However, ask the chef for a not too spice dish as Thai people like it very hot and spicy. Many tour operators warn you about "don't eat this", "don't eat that" so you not get sick. Well, we will give you one rule of thumb: "Don't wake up the chef" This basically means that if there is other people at the restaurant, it's safe to eat there What not to do when I'm Thailand? Thai people will treat you with respect, and will expect the same back. They always smile and try to help you. Don't disrespect them or make jokes about the culture and believes. How to travel in Thailand, and how to get to One-2-Kite's kiteboarding spots? All our spots are located in major cities where people are used to tourists. To all of these spots you can take airplane or bus and train from Bangkok. As Hua Hin are quite close to Bangkok you can also take a taxi and minivan. When is it best to come to Thailand for kiteboarding? In general you can come to Thailand for kitesurfing lessons the whole year. However, the rain season goes roughly from July until September. During this period you will find the wind especially at our kiteboarding center in Phuket
Kitesurifng lessons / course FAQ'sHow is the locations that One-Two-Kite teach at? All the spots we teach kitesurfing is very safe. There is no rocks and the beach is wide with shallow sandy areas. The water temperature is never colder than 28 - 29 degrees. The same goes for the air temperature too What are the average wind speed in the different locations we teach at? The average wind speed varies a bit from location to location. Normally you might expect 12 - 18 knots, but during the rain season in Phuket you might get wind up to 30 knots. Why is Windgury, Windfinder and other meteorological web sites say that the wind is no good in Thailand? All these services are based on global wind system and not local thermal wind. Thailand benefit from the hot sun here that generate nice consistent wind that cannot be predicted. Is kiteboarding difficult? No. With proper instructions that One-2-Kite will give you everyone can try this sport. Also, One-2-Kite follow the guidelines from the main kiteboarding association IKO. What skills do I need before I start kiteboarding lessons? As this sport takes place in the water you need to be able to swim and feel comfortable in deep water. Flying a small trainer kite is also desirable, but not a requirement. Having done so will also speed up you learning curve If I cannot finish my lessons, will I get my money back? If you are unable to finish you lessons after you sign up we will refund you based on how much time you have left. Basically a beginners course will take 3 days and we will refund you 33% of the fee pr day you cannot finish Why should everyone that wants to start kiteboarding take a beginners course? As flying a kite involves controlling great power you need to understand all aspects of flying different kinds of kites. Also it is of out-most importance that you know and have practised the safety procedures. At One-2-Kite we will start with a small kite with short lines and then slowly as we feel your progress move on to bigger kites on longer lines. When this is done we will go through the safety routines, and let you practise them on land and in water. How is the location we teach on? All the spots that we teach on has been hand picket with one thought in mind: Safety and enjoyment. At our spots you will have long and wide sandy beaches with shallow water and no rocks and major obstacles. The wind is usually side shore. Do I have to take the 3 days kiteboarding beginner course consecutively? Yes and No. We will prefer you do this to have a progressive learning curve, but if you are unable to take all 3 days at a time you are welcome to continue whenever you are ready again within a relatively short time frame. Should I book my kiteboarding lessons in advance? It is preferable that you do this but not a requirement. By booking in advance we can confirm to you the start date and guarantee that we have instructors available. If you are unable to decide what date you want to start, just drop by our kite school and we will put you into the first available course. Can I take more advanced kiteboarding lessons? Yes you can. As one of our instructors also are a pro rider we can teach you anything you like from basic jumps to unhooked handlepasses. The intermediate course is good for the kiteboarder that want to ride upwind fast, and the private lessons can be used for anything you want. Kite shop / kite rental FAQ'sCan I purchase kiteboarding equipment at One-2-Kite? Yes you can. One-2-Kite will stock Airush and Slingshot 2008 kites / boards.
