Control bars and bar modifications are very important in kite boarding. It is noted that most of the kite-surfers are really concerned in selecting appropriate control bars for kite boarding. Today, as you know kite surfing has become much popular all across the world, so its equipment is not difficult to find in the market. Similarly if you go out in the market you will find a lot of shops offering different variety of bar modifications for their customers. But before purchasing any specific control bar, you must keep a few things in your mind about it. It should have a wrist strap with sturdy harness line. Another important thing to remember is that it must have a safety release system.
There are many companies that produce control bars in different sizes. The most popular sizes are 65 centimeters, 85 centimeters and 95 centimeters. So it is totally up to you that what size you choose for your kite. But, it is recommended that if you have a bigger kite, then you should prefer a longer control bar to get a good control on your kite.
The bar modifications can also be categorized on the basis of material used in the manufacturing of control base of the bar modifications. The control base of the bar modifications may be made of different metals. Most common used metals are carbon and aluminum. The bar modifications made by carbon are better, because they are lighter and stronger. But these are usually more expensive. The bar modifications made by aluminum are usually heavier. These are less expensive as compared to carbon bar modifications.
Every bar modification has its own safety system. But, a safety release system is compulsory for all the kite-boarders whether they are beginners or experienced. Different bar modifications are now available in the market some have emergency pins while others have wrist leashes connected. Whichever you choose for your kite, but make sure its safety system offers the function to immediately de-power the kite. A front line safety system is always good, as it reduces the possible problems.
If you are a new kite-surfer then you should avoid using a snap shackle in various bar modifications. A good choice is to use bar modifications with the pin-release shackle. This really helps in putting a snap shackle safely. The use of pin-release shackle is recommended, but it is very expensive.
