Introduction to Kite Boarding
Kite boarding which is well known as kite surfing has become popular in the late 90’s. From then on it grew in stature to be a well established sport. People find kite boarding to be an interesting and fascinating vacation sport. It is actually a combination of wakeboarding, surfing and of wind surfing. The size of kite selected depends on the local wind conditions and the performance level intended. As the size of kite becomes larger it becomes easier to gain lift even in light winds. As the size decreases, the effort required to obtain the initial lift will be less. But the problem with big sized kites is its instability in strong winds. It becomes difficult to control it in strong winds. It is better for light winds for a speed of about 10 knots. The small sized kites would be better for strong winds blowing at a speed of around 35 knots.
Kite boarding is much simpler to learn, when compared to surfing or wind surfing. By the aid of a certified instructor of kite boarding, you can easily go up on your board within two or three classes. It is also easy to have your first jump once you get accustomed to the basics of kite boarding. Now coming to the equipments required in kite boarding, first thing is a kite of suitable size, the control bar along with lines, a board and the harness. Almost all the kites come along with standard control bars. For your safety its better you go for a helmet and wet suit. The wet suits will be of great help in cold waters. For the beginners it is better to surf with the helmet as the chances of falling back will be more while starting.
The cost of kites varies with their size, quality and added features. Its cost ranges from about 500 to 1700$. The branded kites cost more owing to the brand value. The cost of a new board is in between 500 to 800$. In case of boards you can go for older stocks which can be bought at a lot cheaper price. Second hand gears can be obtained at very low cost. You can even bargain for it. Though you can get older kites for low cost ,since technology is improving day by day, its better to opt kites which are not older than one or two years. The newer kites will be much better and refined. You can even have an edge over others using the new kites. It can provide better safety and will be more efficient.
Kite boarding is an easy sport. But this doesn’t mean that you can do it all alone. It will be better to have some lessons on kite boarding from a certified instructor. Other wise you will take your own sweet time to learn. It is not safe too to go unguided. Kite boarding being such an exciting and fascinating sport. One can easily make it a choice for their next vacation or holiday.
